Shirlee Seal Pennington 1926 ~ 2014 Shirlee Seal Pennington was born in Riverton, Utah, on April 7, 1926 and enjoyed a long life making connections with the people around her. As the middle child in a family of five siblings Shirlee developed her people skills and her mother called her the family's little peacemaker. She was known and loved for her sense of humor, quick wit and playful banter. Shirlee met her husband, Jim, a Tennessee native, while they were on a book-selling adventure in the Northeast. They returned to Utah in 1950 and raised a family of four. Shirlee and Jim worked to provide a good life for their children. Shirlee was a legal secretary for more than 20 years and later helped in Jim's insurance business. She enjoyed serving with friends in Relief Society and Primary presidencies of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for decades. One of the great joys of Shirlee's life was time spent with people and her family. Shirlee's home had a welcoming spirit, and was a gathering point for not only her immediate family, but for her children's friends, her nieces and nephews, her grandchildren and their friends, and great-grandchildren. On major holidays the extended family could be found enjoying food and activities in the canyons or in Shirlee's back yard. That love of family extended to vacations, near and far, that she and her sister Jone organized. Shirlee is survived by children Michael, Patricia, Paul, and Melissa; grandchildren, Jeremy (Stacy) Lowry, Christopher (Trin), Carrie and Marc; four great-grandchildren; and sisters Jean Hansen and Jone Foster. Marvin Ray Pennington (26 Dec 1947 - 13 Jun 2014) Group Unknown

Argus Observer (Ontario, OR) - Wednesday, June 18, 2014
Middleton—Marvin Ray Pennington of Middleton passed away at his home Friday, June 13 following a long battle with Leukemia. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Marvin was born in Ontario, Oregon on December 26, 1947. He grew up in Middleton just a mile away from his future wife Patricia Josephson. The Pennington and Josephson families were friends and use to go camping together in McCall.
Starting at an early age, Marvin worked in the family business with alongside his father. Marvin continued the family tradition with Pennington Concrete Ditches, pouring hundreds of concrete irrigation ditches for farmers across western Idaho and eastern Oregon.
Marvin was a very hard worker and loved to play just as hard. He loved anything with an engine and always wanted the biggest, the fastest, and the best. The season didn't matter as Marvin was never slowed down. Whether it was fresh powder in Cascade on his snowmobile, or spring mud on his Razor, Marvin could be outside having fun. He distinctly remembered drag racing his Jeep and El Camino in his twenties and finding a love for racing while helping his brother Roland with Jalopy Racing. The Burger Den with his buddies is about all that got him to sit still. When the time came to get out and enjoy his hobbies, he never hesitated to share these joys with family and friends.
Marvin loved were spending time with his grandchildren and he also had a huge heart for animals. He and Patricia could have easily had dog sled team for all the dogs they had in the family. If there is a question in mind to this fact, please come visit their pet cemetery that required more use from his tractor than his fields.
Marvin is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, children; sons Drew Pennington and Kyle Pennington, daughter Heather (Pennington) Dixon; grandchildren; Alex & Halle Pennington, Bryson Toles, Alea and Peyton Dixon, Harley & Ambree Pennington; siblings Roland Pennington, Larry Pennington, Cheryl Peterson, Linda Stephens, and twin sister Marilyn Hindman.

Clarence Pennington (12 Jul 1925 - 13 Jun 2014) Group Unknown
Review Times (Fostoria, OH) - Tuesday, June 17, 2014
Former publisher of Review Times dies
Clarence Pennington, 88, of Hebron, former chief executive officer, editor and publisher of the Review Times, died Friday at The Ohio State University Hospital from complications after bypass surgery.
Pennington, known by his associates as "CP," purchased the Review Times in 1980. In 1986, the Review Times began efforts to access minutes and tape recordings of meetings from Fostoria City Hospital, which was owned by the city at the time. The Ohio Hospital Association claimed the state's Sunshine Laws did not apply to private, nonprofit hospital associations.
The newspaper was involved in three years' worth of litigation in the quest, including three stops in the Ohio Supreme Court and special sessions of the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate.
Pennington was instrumental in the rewriting of Ohio's Sunshine Laws following this legal fight.
The Associated Press Managing Editors Association awarded its 1988 Freedom of Information award to the Review Times after its fight to obtain access to records of board and committee meetings at the hospital. The newspaper also won the Ohio Associated Press First Amendment Award for these efforts.
In 1998, Pennington sold the Review Times to the Findlay Publishing Company.
Prior to arriving in Fostoria, Pennington started his newspaper career at The Ironton Tribune and later moved to The Advocate in Newark, where he rose to vice president and general manager. Pennington's obituary appears on page A9.
-------
Review Times (Fostoria, OH) - Tuesday, June 17, 2014
A memorial service celebrating of the life of Clarence Pennington, age 88, of Hebron, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Second Presbyterian Church, 42 East Church Street, Newark, with Reverend Charles Smith officiating.
Mr. Pennington died June 13, 2014 surrounded by his loved ones at The Ohio State University Hospital of complications following bypass surgery. He was born July 12, 1925 in Raceland, Ky., to the late Lando Pennington and Emma (Presley) Myers.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Pennington; son J.C. (Cindy) Pennington; two daughters, Beth (Rick) Black and Lea Pennington; seven grandchildren, Scott Pennington, Erin Pennington, Anthony Milla, J.C. Pennington, Brent Black, Andy Black and Alex McMahon; two great-granddaughters, Jacey Milla and Emma Pennington; sister, Ruth King; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many cherished friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Delores Johnson.
A proud veteran of World War II, Mr. Pennington left high school to join the U.S. Navy. He served for three and one-half years on an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Ranger, in the North and South Atlantic, the Arctic, African and the Pacific theaters.
After the war ended, he returned home and earned his high school diploma - the first person in his family to do so. He worked the night shift as a brakeman and conductor on the C&O Railroad.
Mr. Pennington started his first journalism job at the Ironton Tribune as a general assignment reporter after graduating from Marshall College (now Marshall University) in 1951. He became sports editor, then rose to city editor at the Tribune, and began a life-long pursuit of open meetings and access to public records. At age 28, he became the youngest president in the history of the Ohio Blue Pen Club, an association of newspaper editors.
In 1956, he and Nancy moved to Newark and he served as city editor of The Advocate, eventually rising to Vice President and General Manager. In 1969, he became president of Spenley Newspapers Inc., a chain of three daily newspapers and 12 weeklies he operated with two associates. He left The Advocate in 1972 as Assistant Publisher to focus on his own newspapers. He also taught journalism and writing at Ohio State University when the local branch opened in the old Newark High School downtown.
In 1980, Mr. Pennington became Chief Executive Officer, Editor & Publisher of The Review Times in Fostoria, Ohio. In 1985, he started a journalistic effort to gain access to public records at Fostoria City Hospital and other hospitals in Ohio. This led to three years of litigation including three stops in the Ohio Supreme Court and special sessions of the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate. The final Ohio Supreme Court decision ordered public access to all public hospitals' non-patient records. Ohio's Sunshine Laws were rewritten as a result of this landmark decision.
Following this revision of Ohio law, in 1988 The Review Times and Mr. Pennington received the Ohio Associated Press First Amendment Award and the National Freedom of Information Award, presented by the Associated Press Managing Editors.
He designed the house and gardens at his Hebron home, hunted upland game and had a life-long love of fishing, which he shared with his children and grandchildren during epic vacations in Grand Cayman, Michigan and Florida. He loved his family more than anything.
Until recently, he prided himself on working out regularly at the Advantage Club. On his 80th birthday, Mr. Pennington rode the bike path from Johnstown to Meijer on 21st Street in an hour and 20 minutes.
Friends may call two hours prior (from 1-3 p.m.) to the memorial service on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Second Presbyterian Church.
The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath is assisting the family with arrangements.
