Clifton Brent “Clif” Pennington (11 May 1959 - 2 Jul 2014) Group Unknown
Clifton Brent Pennington, born May 11, 1959, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, died July 2, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama.

He was predeceased by his father, Dempsey Filmore Pennington, Jr.; and grandparents, Dempsey F. and Clara Pennington; J. A. Roberts and Mary Celeste Jones.

Survivors include his mother, Camilla R. Saunders; father, Charles L. Saunders, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; brother, Philip T. Pennington of Wilmington, N.C.; sisters, Dawn Meadows (Jeff) of Alexandria, Va., Sharon Randolph (Tommy) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Sharla Warren Rob) of Oakton, Va.; and friend, Joy Henderson.

Clif graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and attended both Shelton Tech and Nashville Tech. He was a paramedic for 20 years, bringing peace and healing to both imaginary hysteria and true emergencies with ease.

Clif was an authentic vocalist and bass guitarist for numerous bands. He is locally well known and loved for his many years of playing with the band 'Valhalla' with Chris Ballard and Terry McCray. More recently he continued sharing his musical gifts with the 'HedTones' with Dan Vogt.

His musical influences span the decades, but center around the Beatles melodically and lyrically. Clif always took the music to a level that demonstrated not only technical proficiency, but the true spirit of the song.

As a gentle, caring friend to many, Clif could relate with remarkable wit and intellect. As he sang "I get by with a little help from my friends", he could make everyone on earth become friends. He could look across the universe and see a beautiful creation in a simple flower or a complex society.

Clif taught us all how to love all of God's creatures with his love for a hearty Catahoula mix. Referring to himself as 'Lucy's dad", Clif enabled everyone to see the wisdom and joy that happily accompanies a wagging tail.

Clif was a life-long avid reader, and for more than he may have realized, he was a teacher of the great Beatie truth that "in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." After all, he would sing, "All you need is love."
