I know you all join me is expressing our deepest sympathies for Janet and Mary’s family. If an obituary is made available later, I’ll share it as well.
Mary was a wonderful person and extended great kindness to me during our time together on the PRA Board. She and her husband, Vernon, were instrumental in my early participation in the PRA and in helping to bring the PRA into the digital age. Mary served for many years as the Editor of our Pedigrees. She set a high standard for the Editors who followed in her footsteps. Mary was one of the founders of the PRA. Mary was a member of Group 4.
Mary will be greatly missed. She was a wonderful supporter of the PRA as well as a generous benefactor funding a major research project a couple of years ago.
Message I received from Janet Kirby on Friday, March 11, 2016.
Mom survived the procedure this afternoon. She was awake when I saw her afterwards, and breathing on her own. Then visiting hrs were over and i was asked to leave. I went home and fell asleep. At 930p the nurse called and said that something bad had happened and for me to get there quickly. I notified the family and met everyone there in ICU. We all knew that she was dying by 11p. We said our goodbyes and told her we loved her. We joined hands and some of us said a little prayer, then her pastor Larry Krueger led us in prayer. Then Larry's wife Carla led us in singing Amazing Grace. At the moment we sang the last word, mom stopped breathing and died, at 1 a.m. It was unbelievable, beautiful, peaceful, and perfect. Give eternal rest, O Lord, to the soul of Your recently departed servant Mary, and grant her thine eternal good things. May her memory be eternal!
